Facts About Higher Education

In 2022-23, the average published (sticker) tuition and fees for full-time students are:

  • Public four-year in-state: $10,950, $190 higher than in 2021-22 (1.8% before adjusting for inflation).
  • Public four-year out-of-state: $28,240, $620 higher than in 2021-22 (2.2% before adjusting for inflation).
  • Public two-year in-district: $3,860, $60 higher than in 2021-22 (1.6% before adjusting for inflation).
  • Private nonprofit four-year: $39,400, $1,330 higher than it was in 2021-22 (3.5% before adjusting for inflation).

The income gap between families with the lowest and highest incomes is growing.

  • From 1991 to 2021, families with incomes in the bottom quintile saw their incomes rise 17%, compared to income increases of 64% for families in the top quintile.

What Can We Do To Help?

We have established the “Book Fund” for local Students graduating High School and entering College. We have Scholarships available. Our requirement to be considered is to submit a 500-word Essay entitled “Why Education Is Important To Me”. If you are a High School Student contact your Career Counselor for more information on how to apply. We currently serve Ventura County, California, and Pima County, Arizona. Facts About Childhood Obesity 

For children and adolescents aged 2-19 years in 2017-20181

  • The prevalence of obesity was 19.3% and affected about 14.4 million children and adolescents.
  • Obesity prevalence was 13.4% among 2- to 5-year-olds, 20.3% among 6- to 11-year-olds, and 21.2% among 12- to 19-year-olds. Childhood obesity is also more common among specific populations.
  • Obesity prevalence was 25.6% among Hispanic children, 24.2% among non-Hispanic Black children, 16.1% among non-Hispanic White children, and 8.7% among non-Hispanic Asian children.

Obesity and Socioeconomic Status2

  • Obesity prevalence was 18.9% among children and adolescents aged 2-19 years in the lowest-income group, 19.9% in the middle-income group, and 10.9% among those in the highest-income group.
  • Obesity prevalence was lower in the highest-income group among non-Hispanic Asian boys and Hispanic boys.
  • Obesity prevalence was lower in the highest income group among non-Hispanic White girls, non-Hispanic Asian girls, and Hispanic girls. Obesity prevalence did not differ by income among non-Hispanic Black girls.

More than 2 in 3 adults (70.2 percent) were considered to be overweight or have obesity.3

What Can We Do To Change These Statistics?

We visit various local elementary schools and give talks about Type 2 diabetes; each student receives a signed copy of our book “Does Diabetes Mean You Die?” Please click on the “Schools” tab for more information.
